How Do Ground Source Heat Pumps Work?
There are a couple of different systems available, but they mostly work by extracting the naturally occurring heat from the ground outside and transferring it to the inside of the building. In the UK, the ground temperature a couple of metres down stays at around 11 degrees C most of the year. To make use of this stable heat source, pipes are buried at this depth and filled with liquid. This liquid absorbs the warmth from the ground and carries it to the heat exchange to heat the interior of the building.
